July 24, 2018 – From Friday, July 20th to the 22nd Headwaters Tourism hosted the first-ever Canadian Tour Stop for the renowned EQUUS Film Festival. Headwaters Horse Country served as the perfect backdrop for the Festival which was held at the Town Hall Opera House in the heart of historic Downtown Orangeville. There, hundreds of film enthusiasts, arts and culture lovers, equestrians and visitors to the area enjoyed an international slate of films celebrating the beauty and majesty of the horse.
Festivities began with a VIP reception, sponsored by Orangeville Chrysler, with libations provided by Adamo Estate Winery and Pommies Cider Co.. Attendees had the opportunity to walk the red carpet and take photographs alongside filmmakers, Festival founders and sponsors to commemorate the event.
Filmmakers in attendance included Bruce Anderson (THE EDGE), Miranda and James O’Connor (THE EDGE), Julianne Neal (THE RESCUE SERIES) and Stefan Morel (HERD). Special guests also making an appearance included Lorie Duff (LIBERTY LANE FARM) future participant in the Gobi Cup, Filipe Masetti Leite (JOURNEY AMERICA) and equine artist Manuela Stefan.
From the reception, attendees made their way into the theatre where Headwaters Tourism CEO Michele Harris welcomed the crowd to the Headwaters Tour Stop presented by Lothlorien Farm. Festivities began on a winning note as it was announced that the promotional artwork for the Headwaters Tour Stop created by local design firm Touchwood Design Inc. received national award recognition (Applied Arts 2018 – Advertising Illustration).
The Honourable Sylvia Jones, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and Dufferin-Caledon MPP then took the stage to address festival goers and officially kick off the main event. On the Running Fox Equestrian Main Stage, EQUUS Film Festival Headwaters showcased 19 films from around the world including the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Tibet, Bulgaria and the UK. Films were screened in blocks including a morning of Free Family Films presented by Victoria Phillips and Janna Imrie, Headwaters Country, Royal Lepage RCR, Saturday afternoon and evening blocks sponsored by RAM Rodeo Tour 2018 and Sunday Films presented by Caledon Equestrian Park.
The Festival was in the fortunate position to partner with two National Media Sponsors: Heels Down Media and Horse Media Group (Horse Canada and Horse Sport Magazine) and garnered interest and coverage from severalnmedia outlets.

ABOUT EQUUS FILM FESTIVAL
Founded by avid equestrian enthusiast Lisa Diersen in 2013, and co-organized by acclaimed equestrian photo journalist Diana De Rosa, the EQUUS Film Festival takes place annually in New York City in November and makes over 12 Tour Stops throughout the year. Since its inception, hundreds of equestrian themed films have gained recognition, found international distribution and reached global audiences through the Festival.
