Meet Lucky Buck
The first Headwaters Parade of Horses statue was transformed live at the 2015 Can-Am All Breed Equine Expo by the Headwaters Horse Country 2014 Signature Artist, Amanda Melinz. Amanda’s working title for the statue was “Lucky Buck”, referencing buckskin.
Visitors to the event were asked to participate in the creative process by writing the name of the horse that has been the biggest inspiration to them on the statue. “Many people were emotional thinking about that one horse that meant so much to them”, said Melinz. “Hopefully the horse will be a good luck charm to our Canadian team!”
About Amanda Melinz:
Amanda has earned a degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in contemporary Oil Painting from the University of Ottawa. Since 1997 she has been working in the Equine Industry which has provided numerous opportunities to travel and work overseas, and various placements across North America.
Only recently turning to horses as subject matter, she is finding new inspiration in exploring the equine as a theme. Amanda works out of a studio located in the Hockley hills focusing on large scale oil paintings and smaller encaustic works. Her paintings are often referred to falling into the style of ‘Abstract Realism’ using vivid colour and intense exaggerated brush strokes and texture to suggest a deeper meaning on the subject matter.
